Our mission at Higher Level Fitness is to make your fitness goals reachable and sustainable. We want fitness to become a way of life instead of something you have to start doing over again. This is done by helping you make small successful steps towards your goals each day and building fitness habits you can keep for life.
HOW WE STARTED
Higher Level Fitness owner and head instructor Melanie Fensick began her fitness journey when, as an awkward and shy teenager, she joined a martial arts school to overcome shyness. Often being the smallest, weakest member of class Melanie had to work hard at things that often came easy to her fellow classmates. After years of dedication however, Melanie now holds ranks in two martial art systems, has extensive training in kickboxing and mixed martial arts and has competed in many martial arts tournaments.
It was through her tournament experience that Melanie became interested in the science of exercise to reach her training goals. Combining her science background and interest in fitness Melanie became a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor, turning her part time interest in fitness into a full time profession. She opened her first gym in Connecticut, The Higher Edge Fitness, in order to give other women what fitness has given her: health, confidence and a community of friends.
